Midnight (McLeod)

The sound of the ocean meets our ears
He's holding on to me like I'm gonna disappear
We race down to the water at midnight to passion-kill.
Falling on our faces, measuring the shore
I'm acting all vivacious, I've been here before
We spin round by the water at midnight away from fear.

And as I peel off my disguise
I feel a space open open up between my eyes
Disgrace on my face that I can't hide at all
And as I tease and tantalise
I feel the bruise and the blow of 'I'd rather die'
No room for redemption to fortify those claws.

He says, 'pick up my jacket and straighten my tie
Before the morning comes and the whole world spies
Me and you by the water at midnight all alone.
I never really looked at you from underneath
I took the eighteen carats and ice-white teeth
And came round by the water at midnight, just in time.'

And as the dawn breaks through the night
I am mourned and marooned in the morning light
Devoid of the courage or the strength to fight the world.
And while he leaves and waves goodbye
I'm screaming 'Any Old Price' and the 'Bridge of Sighs'
And songs are a vain attempt to apologise to the world.

[Instrumental -- go, Rakkers, go]

Wandering the shoreline, drifting with the tide
My soul evaporating along with my pride
I must drown in the water when midnight comes again.
See my cheap reflection, come and touch my skin
The years don't count, the fall begins
I break down by the water at midnight's only end.
